Summer Reading

Join the Westbrook Public Library this summer for our Summer Reading Programs! All programs will be held in the lower level community room, unless otherwise stated.
Information on assigned summer reading can be found on the Children and Teen pages.

Nutmeg Book Club

Join Mrs. Nyman this summer, Thursdays at 6:30 pm in the lower level community room to discuss your summer reading books with crafts & book related snacks!

  • July 11th – Save Me a Seat by Sarah Weeks (Grade 4-6)
  • July 18th – Fuzzy by Tom Angleberger (Grade 4-6)
  • July 25th – Elementary Nutmeg (Choose any title, Grades 2-3)
  • August 1st – Ban This Book by Alan Gratz (Grade 4-6)
  • August 8th – Elementary Nutmeg (Choose any title, Grades 2-3)
  • August 15th – Jumbies by Tracey Baptiste (Grade 4-6)

Parent & Child Events

Special events will take place on this summer open to students 8 years old and up and parents. The program start at 6:00 pm. SPACE IS LIMITED, REGISTRATION REQUIRED!

To Be Read: Teen Book Club

Saturday, July 30th — To Be Read: check out upcoming teen books and get free copies with Kathy Sharp. Snacks and books provided.

Beach Story Hour

Wednesday July 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, & 31st at 10:00 am Join Mrs. Nyman at the Town Beach for story hour this summer! On July 24th, we have special visitors, Sunny Train, Lala & Christopher, joining us. In case of rain, story hour will be held in the community room.

Celestial Creatures: Let’s look to the sky for our animal constellations. Meet some of the creatures they are named after and design your very own constellation.

Our Universal Neighbors, the Planets: From Mercury to Mars, hands-on activities, learn about Earth’s neighbors and the make a “Ring of Saturn Whirligig” to take home!

Kid’s Corner
Saturday, July 20th at 10:00 am Open to grades K thru 4th, stop by for a presentation on rockets and see one blast off!

Bring the Hoopla
Tuesday, August 6th at 3:00 pm Open to ages 7 and up, let’s have some fun with hula hoops!

Polymer Power
Saturday, August 17th at 10:00 am The Science Center of West Hartford conducts slimy experiments for children grades K through 6th.
